Alright, you've came here either by accident or you want to learn to edit.
This is a step-by-step tutorial showing you how to do the simplest edits.
Here you will learn how to change your skin so you don't look so blah.
Enjoy, and if you have any question email me at originofonyx@hotmail.com.
-Skin Changing-
-Pre-Step-
-Requirements-
Okay, you need some things for this tutorial. First, you need a basic understanding of computers, if you know nothing of computers at all, quit now.
Secondly, you need three programs, Tank Viewer, Tank Creator, Skirt pad. You can find those three programs anywhere, try googleing them.
Or get them from here:
[Dwnld Link]
-Step One-
-Using Tank Viewer-
Alright, let’s jump right in, first thing you want to do is make a New Folder that is easy to access. Try your desktop, but you can place it anywhere you like. Now, we need to open up Tank viewer. You may see some pretty strange things, trust me this will all become common knowledge. What you want to do is hit the Open Icon like you see here.
And find your character you want to edit. Like you see here.
Then you will see three files; Party, Info, Portrait. What you want to do is highlight them all and hit the Extract Icon.
Then a small window will appear and you will see a browser. What you are looking for is the New Folder that you had created this is where mine is…
Now close Tank Viewer, Congratulations you have now completed Step One.
-Step Two-
-Editing-
Okay, what you are going to need to do, is to open the Party.gas file that you extracted. So open the folder you have created and select the Party file like this.
When you open the Party file with Skirt Pad. You will find something similar to this.
What you need to do is scroll all the way down until you find the skins. It should look something similar to this.
We simply replace the skin with a newer, cooler skin. I have used a very simple template. You may want something far more difficult or complex, but I have used this.
After we replace the skins, we need to save our work. We go to file....save as..... like shown here.
Now select it and a window will appear. What we need to do first is select the down arrow and hit all files. Then simply overwrite the Party file, for example, this.
Well, Step Two is finished.
-Step Three-
-Finishing-
Alright, let’s wrap this up so you can get to more advanced editing. We need to open Tank Creator and create all our hard work. Click the Source box to start this off, the source box is this one.
The Source means its asking where is the data, meaning the Party File. So in the window, browse until you find the New Folder with the Party file in it. It should look like this.
Then select OK. You will find yourself back at the starting screen. Now we have to select the output. So Select the output box, Like so.
Here a browser will come up and ask you for your Save File here.
Find your Character you are editing and make sure that it is the DSPARTY not BAK or this will throw your editing off completely and nothing will happen. Now that you have both the source and output hit the Create button Like so.
After you do so a black screen will appear that should look like this.
Then, just hit any button, it does not matter the button just push one. Congratulations! If you have followed this tutorial closely, you have successfully edited. Now go view your results!! Yay!!
But of course, there is a lot more to editing than changing your skin like where do you find the skins at?
-Finding Skins-
Yay! Now that we know how to change out skins, we must know where to find them. Go to My Computer/Local Disk Drive (C:)/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Dungeon Siege/Resources
Here you will find a lot of curious files like, (Logic.dsres/Objects.dsres/Sound.dsres/Terrain.dsres/Voices.dsres)
These are the basic files for dungeon siege and they all can be opened and changed and looked at. What we are doing is just looking, I'll show you mudding later.
First, the two good places to look are Objects.dsres and Terrain.dsres. These hold many interesting textures, and anyone can be used as your skin.
To open these files, use tankviewer, and you can preview the textures.
Look around for awhile, and you will notice they all have a template name. All you simply have to do is copy that template name into your skin location, as you see above, and you will have a fabulous skin.
-Modifiers-
Now that you completely understand skins, we can move on to modifiers.
Adding modifiers is very simple indeed, you only need to add a couple simple lines to your template and ta-da!, a edited item.
First you start out with an item, any item, but I will show you a health potion to edit, a basic item in the game.
First you will start off with something that looks close to this:
Then we add the lines;
modifier_prefix_name = "modifier"
modifier_suffix_name = "modifier"
We add these lines to tell the item what to have on it. So say we replace "modifier" with ofzeal,
then your item will add nature damage, say we add, of*gony, instead,
then your item will add melee damage,
for a list of modifiers, see MooFoo's Resource Guide here:
Simply add the lines believe the "inv_location" line and replace "modifier" with the modifier of your choice.
Like you see here:
And that’s it!
Now, Save as...
Tank Creator,
and Test! You will see the item you have edited has now 2 modifiers on it that you picked!
Congratulations!
(Of course if you forgot how to save as or use tank creator, use the reference above this part ^^)
(Also don't get discouraged, it make take some time before you get this, so if it doesn't work t he first time, try again, or ask for help)
(Contact me at originofonyx@hotmail.com if you need help)
Alright, now see that we have moved on from modifiers, we should learn something new. How about locking your character?
-Character Locking-
Alright there are many benefits of locking your character.
- You never will lose anything, always start out with the same items
- Anything you lose in a game will come back
- You can have 4 modifiers (will be explained later)
- Hiding Your health
Although where there are benefits, there are downsides
- You can't gain anything
- People may be upset that you hide your health
I highly suggest locking you character, it helps so much. It helps a lot when you start boosting, (will be explained later)
So to start, there are two ways you can lock your character, I will teach you both.
First we will start old school,
This way will lock your character, but also will hide your health (hiding you health allows other people in game to not be able to see your health points)
To start your character name may be similar to this:
And then we simply add three spaces to your screen name, and ta-da. You are locked.
The after effect should look like this:
Ta-Da now you can enter drop all games, and never worry about losing your precious items.
Of course there is always an alternative, if you do not want to hide your health.
And it is a wise choice, hiding your health is considered rude by some people,
and can cause some problems.
So an easy solution to this is add a ~ * > < to your name, and Bam! You character is locked!
So the final product should look like this:
Congratulations! Now you know how to hide your health! We will make a great editor out of you yet!
Now, Save as...
Tank Creator,
and Test! You will see that if you drop an item in a game then re-log you will still own that item!
Now on to a really cool trick, Four Modifiers.
-Four Modifiers-
There is one more thing that can be linked to character locking, you can have 4 modifiers!
This is simply done by changing the template name,
Before:
After:
As you can see all you do is add a # before the template, and /+"modifier" to tell the item what modifiers you want on it.
So it should look like this:
#"template"/+"prefix"/+"suffix";
With four modifiers, it will only allow you to have;
That's it! If you have 4 of one kind, one will disappear, so just make sure you don't use all the same kind and you will be fine.
So try it! Add four modifiers to one of your item! and see the power you can make!
Remember, four modifiers will only stay if you have your character locked.
Now, Save as...
Tank Creator,
and Test! You will see that your item will now have Four Modifiers!
Congratulations!
(Of course if you forgot how to save as or use tank creator, use the reference above this part ^^)
(Also don't get discouraged, it make take some time before you get this, so if it doesn't work the first time, try again, or ask for help)
(Contact me at originofonyx@hotmail.com if you need help)
Now on to possibly the hardest thing in editing, boosting.
-Boosting-
-Agony, Mana, Death-
Now this may be very confusing, but it you follow this tutorial very closely we should not have a problem.
There are 3 simple ways of boost, Agony Boosting, Mana Boosting, and the very powerful, Death Boosting.
I shall teach you all three. It will be a rough ride, but I'm sure we can pull out on top.
The very first thing you need to understand is ~!Over Boosting!~
Over Boosting is a very bad thing! and if you never do it, good for you!
Over Boosting is;
Rude,
Dumb,
Unnecessary,
Dishonorable,
and a whole lot of other stuff, basically...
DO NOT OVERBOOST!!!!
Over Boosting, is when you boost to fast, or boost to much. It can involve to much health, or holding the "H" key down.
What ever the form of Over Boosting, DON"T DO IT! It brings a bad reference to you, and you may not even be let in to any games,
so just don't do it.
K?
Good, now that we have OBing out of the way, I'll show you the simplest form of boosting,
-Agony Boosting-
OR
-Pump Boosting-
This involves the spell most commonly known as "Agony". When really the spell is called
base_summon_good
or
base_summon_dark
either one of these work, you simply place "base_summon_good" or "base_summon_dark" as a spell template.
As you see here:
And then we add some modifiers to make you extra strong, like "of*gony"
So you can kill lesser noobs! Yay! Noob Battles!
Any who, something like this,
All you do is select the spell, and cast it on yourself, that shouldn't need much explaining.
Now, Save as...
Tank Creator,
and Test! Just cast on yourself and see your stats raise!
So let's move onto Mana Boosting!
-Mana Boosting-
Alright, let us jump right in.
First your going to need some mana pots, I don't care how you get, just get some MANA potions.
Pots can Range in number to 5 to 255, like I said the number of pots is up to you, then just change all your pots to, potion_mana_medium;
(There is a cool trick in skirtpad, if you use cntrl+R you can replace the text and make changing your pots names go a lot faster, give it a try (works only in Skirtpad)
Just get some mana pots, then you are going to need to edit them,
To edit them, we need to add the modifier lines, and then add modifiers,
If you are unclear in how to add modifiers to your items, Scroll up, there is a tutorial on them.
But then the question comes up, what do I add to my pots to make me strong,
I suggest a couple of things,
-Main Modifiers-
*ofzeal (Nature Damage)
ofrepression (Combat Magic Damage)
*hulking (Adds to Armor)
ofglory (Adds to Health) (DON'T OVERBOOST!!!)
*merciless (A Magic Reducer)
of*gony (Adds to Melee Damage)
flying (Adds to Ranged)
vindication (Reflects Damage)
(Don't forget, this is just a suggestion, you can add any modifiers you want!)
**Stars are the main, biggest modifiers you want.
Also, you can find all the modifiers, Dungeon Siege 1 and LOA modifiers in MooFoo's reference, don't forget to thank him!
There is no real way of telling you what to put on for modifiers, just try them out! If you think you are too weak,
add more potions, or edit your modifiers, test it, that's what editing is about.
Alright, now for the second part in Mana Boosting.
-Edit your Level-
Second of all your going to need to edit your level,
That may look like this:
You need to edit your Dexterity Level, and your Intelligence Level to Zero, 0
That way you can lower your mana.
Your level should look like this:
-Editing Your Gold-
Seeing as we are talking about editing your level, I will now talk about editing your gold amount,
if you just want to know how to Mana Boost or just know how to all ready, skip this part.
If you don't the look right by your screen name, its says "gold = #;" that is where you edit your gold amount.
But also, in order for the gold change edit to work, you need to edit your gold amount by your skin,
so scroll all the way down untill you see "gold = #;"
You have to edit the gold to the exact number it has to be the same number by your screen name, as your skin.
In order to work.
Remember, Save as... and Tank Creator, if you forgot ho,w look at the skin changing section for the tutorial on useing tankviewer and tankcreator.
Okay, back to Mana Boosting.
Good job, this is a good step to Mana Boosting.
The second part to Mana Boosting is to add the modifier "ofrefuge"
We add this modifier, because it lowers your mana, your mana has to be below 0 to mana boost!
to some of your items that you are equipping. Like maybe your shield, or your armor.
Whatever it takes to get your mana down below Zero, in the negative zone.
So add some modifiers:
Then check to see if your mana is below zero,
Remove a piece of your armor so your mana then looks like this:
Then tap M a few times, Walla! You mana boosted!! Good Job!
Now there is a special trick I can teach you,
-Fast Drinking-
Now here is a special trick that will help you boost better, hit "ESC" and go to "Options" then "Input" Then finally, "Hotkeys" from there,
select "Attack: Fight Freely" Change the second hotkey to ","
select "Attack: Hold Fire" Chang the second hotkey to "."
And of course, double check that Drink Mana Potion is "m"
So your hotkeys should look like this:
Then hit m,.m,.m,. a couple of times, your character should do something like this:
Congratulations! You know everything there is to know about Mana Boosting!
(Of course if you forgot how to save as or use tank creator, use the reference above this part ^^)
(Also don't get discouraged, it make take some time before you get this, so if it doesn't work t he first time, try again, or ask for help)
(Contact me at originofonyx@hotmail.com if you need help)
But, there is a more powerful boosting, that I am about to show you.
It's called Death Boosting
-Death Boosting-
Well, if you made it this far down in the tutorials, I congratulate you! But, the hardest part is about to come up!
The first thing to remember about boosting is not to over Boost! If you need help, there's is a reference above,
or use the forums as a FAQ! Don't be afraid to ask, we all need a little help now and then!
The second thing you need to get is a little file called, pots.dsres
You can google it and easily find it or get it off of ssoh here:
[Dwnld Link]
Do you remember where we found or skins?
(My Computer/Local Disk Drive (C:)/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Dungeon Siege/Resources)
Well, that’s where this mod goes, and any other mod. But, in case your going to ask, yes you need this mod in order to Death Boost.
Now, just like we did in Mana Boosting, we need to collect pots.
First your going to need some health pots, I don't care how you get, just get some HEALTH potions.
Pots can Range in number to 5 to 255, like I said the number of pots is up to you, then just change all your pots to, potion_health_medium;
(You may hear people say super is better, but I disagree, Supers just lag the game, which may be taken as over Boosting)
(DON'T OVERBOOST!)
(There is a cool trick in skirtpad, if you use cntrl+R you can replace the text and make changing your pots names go a lot faster, give it a try (works only in Skirtpad)
Once you have collected your pots, it is time to edit them.
To edit them, we need to add the modifier lines, and then add modifiers,
If you are unclear in how to add modifiers to your items, scroll up, there is a tutorial on them.
But then the question comes up, what do I add to my pots to make me strong?
I suggest a couple of things,
-Main Modifiers-
*ofzeal (Nature Damage)
ofrepression (Combat Magic Damage)
*hulking (Adds to Armor)
ofglory (Adds to Health) (DON'T OVERBOOST!!!)
*merciless (A Magic Reducer)
of*gony (Adds to Melee Damage)
flying (Adds to Ranged)
vindication (Reflects Damage)
(Don't forget, this is just a suggestion, you can add any modifiers you want!)
**Stars are the main, biggest modifiers you want.
Also, you can find all the modifiers, Dungeon Siege 1 and LOA modifiers in MooFoo's reference, don't forget to thank him!
There is no real way of telling you what to put on for modifiers, just try them out! If you think you are too weak,
add more potions, or edit your modifiers, test it, that's what editing is about.
Alright, now for the third part in Death Boosting.
We need to get 1 small potions, these can simply be bought in Eldimm from Mage Trianna Leliane in the Azunite Shrine of Passion.
As you can easily see, the potion is different, its empty!
That's good, if your small potions arent empty, maybe you places the mod in the wrong spot?
Anyway, buy 1 small potion, and place it in your inventory,
Drag a filled potion from your inventory and drop it over the empty potion.
Now your empty potion, that once was empty, is now filled!
Right click on the filled potion, and ta-da! You have died! Good Job!
Now, SLOWLY tap H about... 5 to 10 times,
Now I bring this up only because it is so important, DON'T OVER BOOST!
Respawn as a ghost...hitting "ESC" and congratulations!
You have successfully Death Boosted!
Remember never to Over Boost!
(Also don't get discouraged, it make take some time before you get this, so if it doesn't work t he first time, try again, or ask for help)
(Contact me at originofonyx@hotmail.com if you need help)
And that is all pretty much you need to know about editing!
I will show you some cool tricks like;
Mixing Armor,
Mixing Helms,
Shield Rings,
Monster Templates,
Glowing Weapons,
So you can become a Master Editor, and possibly find yourself in the clan of Shadow Soldiers of Heaven.
-Templates-
Templates you wouldn't think do much in the world of Dungeon Siege, all the do is say what the item is,
but with a very tricks, anyting can be acomplished. We can do some pretty cool things, like mix armor
or become invunerable to ranged attacks (except guns) So let us jump right in at the world of Templates.
First of all, you need to know what templates do. Templates tell Dungeon Siege, what the item is,
and every item has a template, that means any item can be edited.
Now that you know what templates are you need to know where to find them.
You could pick up and item, and look at it through TankViewer, to see what the template is,
or thankfully, our friend MooFoo, has compiled a list with all the items and the templates for them,
Don't forget to thank MooFoo!
Now that we know how to find templates, it is time to find out what we can do with them.
-Replacing Templates-
All you have to do to make an item appear in your inventory, is replace the template.
Say you want a mana potion, and all you can find is health potions. Then we can change the template name.
So lets say you start with this:
We simply replace "potion_health_medium" with the template for the man potion found in MooFoo's Misc resource.
"potion_mana_super" so then our item looks like this:
Now we Save as.... Tank Creator if you are unsure see the Skin Changing tutorial on how to save our work.
And we go test it!
Now we dont neccasarly have to use potions, it could have been armor or a sword anything!
But now we know how to use template names, lets do some cool tricks now!
-Armor Mixing-
-Helm Mixing-
Armor & Helm mixing is very easy, if you understand templates. If you do not understand templates, see the tutorial above.
Alright, well first of all we find our boots.
Either scroll untill you find them or hit Cntrl+F "feet"
Now that we found them, we add our new template, if you want to mix your helm, use a helm template
"he_threestorms;" is a good and popular template,
If you are mixing armor use a armor template
"bd_un_br_f_spider;" is a neat looking leather template,
Then if you have your normal helm, in your helm location, and your normal armor, in your armor location.
Ta-Da! You have mixed helms! Somthing Like my charactor!
And that is how you mix armor.
(Also don't get discouraged, it make take some time before you get this, so if it doesn't work t he first time, try again, or ask for help)
(Contact me at originofonyx@hotmail.com if you need help)
There is one other part of template, but it is a different kind of template.
-Monster Templates-
This maybe be very confussing, or very easy, if you follow close, we should not have a problem.
First of all you need to find what it is we need to change. At the very top where it says,
template_name = "template";
That is what we are going to change.
Now, that we know what we have to change, we have to find what we want to change it with.
Do you remember when we talked about where to find skins?
(My Computer/Local Disk Drive (C:)/Program Files/Microsoft)
Well now we have to go into Logic.dsres when we open logic with, TankViewer,
we have to go throught these folders;
World/contentdb/template/regular/actors
Then you are here with three choices, Ambient, Evil, Good, either one is fine, if your browse through each one,
you will find all the cahracters you recognize. Any template is fine, and you will be able to go throught the game with any of them,
Just pick any template you want, I have chosen a maljin, so copy the template name from TankViewer,
and place it in the template_name = "template"; location like so:
And ta-da! Test you charactor and you will see you are a maljin, or what ever character you have picked.
Congratulations! Of course, you have no inventory, and if you die, you can come back, that will all be solved,
once we start modding. You can either pick up a monster respawn/backpack mod or wait untill my modding tutorial.
(Also don't get discouraged, it make take some time before you get this, so if it doesn't work t he first time, try again, or ask for help)
(Contact me at originofonyx@hotmail.com if you need help)
Now there is only one other thing haveing to do with templates, shield rings.
-Shield Rings-
Have you ever been slaughter with someone and a bow? Well no longer will that be a problem with shield rings!
Shield Rings are very simple if you understand templates, if you do not, scroll up.
First we will start by finding your first ring, make sure you have a ring placed in your ring location before you start.
Now find your ring in skirtpad. Either scroll down or hit Cntrl+F "ring_0" to fidn your first ring, you may see somthing like this,
Well we simply change the ring template, to a shield template
"sh_ra_w_g_o_t_l_avg"
Then simply change the template to all your rings, and your amulet,
"ring_0"
"ring_1"
"ring_2"
"ring_3"
"amulet"
Then save as... tank creator, you are unclear how to save, see the skin changing tutorial,
Then ta-da! I garentee, no bow will ever touch you, (except guns, mods ect)
Now, look at the finished product.
Congratulations! You now know everything there is to know about templates! Try it out!
(Also don't get discouraged, it make take some time before you get this, so if it doesn't work t he first time, try again, or ask for help)
(Contact me at originofonyx@hotmail.com if you need help)
Another cool thing I will spend a brief moment before I turn you lose, is effects
-Effects-
Ever see that cool guy with that sweet staff? And wondered how they did that? Well I can tell you very easily.
Modifiers! That's right! Modifiers! Certian modifiers do certain things to your weapons, like "ofice" of "offire"
So for a list of cool effects, we trun to ~*DSE*~ Hoe has compiled a list of cool modifiers to add toy our weapons to make them look sierously cool
